There's a considerable amount of evidence, including twin studies, that point to a substantial genetic/ congenital component with BPD. Every child born will color their experiences with their own neurological filters. What is "traumatic" to one child might be the "best experience ever" to another in the same exact family.

For everything this doctor says, she might as well say my partner's name specifically. At home right now, in the process of actually facing all of this. Ten years ago i read about BPD and I realized it was my partner. I did not harp on it, he did not want to hear it, but it helped me to understand and better deal with how he is. I had read that it gets better with age and I remained hopeful that we could have a future. But he had a betrayal (real or perceived is hard to know for sure) at work starting about 2 years ago, and it has since been a rapid spiraling descent. Three months ago he had back surgery, after which, during his recovery which I was helping him with, I had to agonizingly witness him drinking and falling and screaming in pain, sabotaging the surgery repair which we had all put our lives on hold for for several months. Now I am just feeling so traumatized. And I told him he needs help, and not just from me anymore. I am so sad about it and so angry, but being at angry at him is like being angry at a 2-year old. He knows how upset I am, yet yesterday he looked at me with his sad eyes and said "What's the matter?". !!!!???? I am so exhausted from feeling like Im constantly taking crazy pills. I feel like I am now going down with him. He destroys almost everything. Over the years i have gradually replaced the dishes with plastic or metal ones. My good things have to stay in boxes. I am a strong person, but I have started doing strange things like sleeping on the floor with my head under the desk just in case he might wander around at night and accidentally step me. Seriously messed up, I think I am having some kind of a trauma reaction myself. ? I have never written a comment on youtube before. I think I am searching for what to do. We are old now, he is 70 and I am 60.

It was like dealing with emotional whiplash with my ex with bpd. Never met anyone so damaged, so changeable and so cold at times. He would just end the relationship and go quiet for weeks/months and then come back like nothing happened. It was always doomed and I had to work hard to maintain my own emotional stability. I have a lot of compassion for him but pleased its in my rear view window.

I always think people are not same in terms of emotionality. On a regular day, a well resilient emotional person is open to get hurt, bounce back by finding solutions, learn from an incident. Many intelligent people can not do that. Narcissism might have something to do with base emotionality. You look at a kid and adolescent, you see there isn't enough frame or tenacity to handle the big blows of a human life. You accept it as a phase. Many turn out well as grown ups. The emotional deficient guy, much alike a big physical difficulty, has to keep pace, but not in that well endowed manner. His signature style, as others would see it, is actually a horrible trauma within and without. We need to expect less, as much we would not want an physical disabled to take up tough tasks.
